Samsung November 2022 update is rolling out to Galaxy devices

Samsung continues its line of offering constant and timely updates to the entire range of Android smartphones. Several Galaxy phones and tablets have already started receiving the November 2022 security update from Samsung.

Samsung November 2022 Security Update – Here are the new features:

Every month, Google and its partners release a new Android security patch, detailing every way your smartphone is getting more secure with each update. The security patch arriving now on Galaxy phones includes the new fixes from the November 1, 2022 bulletin in addition to the October 5 bulletin. In total, between the two Android releases, which also include fixes for Qualcomm, Samsung devices will see 34 fixes, including three considered critical and 30 considered highly severe.

Meanwhile, Samsung is also expanding on core Android patching with its own security improvements as well as problem fixes for Samsung devices and apps. According to the company’s official patch notes, the November update supplements Google’s changes with 26 fixes for specific Samsung issues, two of which are very severe.

For some Samsung Galaxy phones, the November patch brings a much bigger change, coinciding with the Android 13 update and One UI 5.0.

Devices with the Samsung November 2022 Security Update

As you might hope, Samsung generally prioritizes its premium phones when it comes to new updates, focusing on the Galaxy S and Galaxy Z series. From there, Samsung usually releases updates on its newer devices before older devices, in general.

This list will include a note on where the update first appeared and if it is also available in the US. As usual, the most recent additions will be marked in bold.

Galaxy S series

For years now, Samsung’s flagship series of phones has been topped by the flagship Galaxy S series. The phones have an in-depth set of premium features and materials that seek to appeal to the widest possible audience. Given the premium cost of the phones, Samsung is expected to pay particular attention to the Galaxy S series for Android updates.

Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S series started getting an update this month starting with a strange selection, the Galaxy S10 Lite. The 2019 phone was patched on November 11, ahead of other Galaxy S phones. The latest Galaxy S21 FE was just around the corner, picking up the update later that day.

In short, the Galaxy Z series from Flips and Folds took the crown from the Galaxy S phones to become Samsung’s true “flagship” Android devices. As such, Samsung has given both the Galaxy Z Flip and Z Fold phones a high priority when it comes to security updates, and they’re often among the first to receive the patch each month.

The November 2022 security update was no different, first appearing on the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 on November 7, including in the United States. The second update arrived for both the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4, on November 11, updating both phones to Android 13, with One UI 5.0 improvements.

A generation ago, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 were updated a few hours later on the same day. Continuing with the release order, Samsung simultaneously updated the original Galaxy Z Fold 2 and the original Galaxy Fold – the latter no longer eligible to receive monthly updates – on November 11.

Once the flagship of Samsung’s lineup, the Galaxy Note lineup has been effectively discontinued in favor of the foldable Galaxy Z series. However, many Galaxy Note phones are still quite new and continue to receive updates on a monthly basis in some cases.
