One of the biggest issues with Wear OS smartwatches has always been battery life, but it looks like the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro will go to great lengths to avoid this issue, with claims of a three-day endurance.
Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 5 series is about a month away from bumping our wrist, and while it appears to be a minor upgrade overall, the “Pro” model looks very exciting.
Ice world Claims on Twitter Samsung is set to bring about three days of battery life on the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro.
That’s an unheard of number in the Wear OS world.
Most Wear OS smartwatches are lucky to last more than 24 hours, although there are some exceptions. The only other watch in recent memory that has managed to consistently beat anything close to that is the Suunto 7, which is a huge fitness-focused watch as well. Mobvoi’s Ticwatch Pro series often reaches a battery life of about two days thanks to the dual-layer display with a low-power layer.
But with the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, the three-day battery life seems to come directly from the battery size.
We’ve heard many times that the battery in the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro will be in the 600mAh range – to be specific, 572mAh. That’s about 60% more than current Galaxy Watch models running Wear OS, and it’s definitely capable of providing that three-day endurance.
As for what else the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro brings to the table, much remains a mystery.
The design looks similar to the Galaxy Watch 4 series based on recent leaks, although there is a slightly raised bezel above the display. The rotating bezel of the “classic” Samsung design also disappeared this year. Under the hood, we’d expect a package pretty much the same as last year’s, apart from the increased batteries on all models.
Samsung is preparing to launch the Galaxy Watch 5 series along with the new foldable devices on August 10, the company confirmed this week.
