Polar has announced the new Ignite 3 fitness watch with a new and improved focus on sleep and recovery.
Aimed at recreational fitness enthusiasts rather than hardcore runners, the new Fitness & Wellness watch wants to help you align your training and activity with your body’s natural circadian rhythm.
The company says that the new SleepWise feature in Ignite 3 can distinguish the time of day when you will be most alert and ready for cognitive tasks. So, if you need to focus on studying for an exam, for example, Ignite 3 will tell you the best time to tackle it.
Besides taking advantage of your circadian rhythm, the Ignite 3 also borrows some of the high-end features we’ve seen in more expensive Polar watches like the Grit X.
This includes Nightly Recharge, which provides a complete breakdown of how your overnight rest can help you recover from stress or other demands. There is Sleep Stages Plus which displays the time spent in each stage of sleep as well as the quality of that sleep.
The standby feature will suggest exercises tailored to how well your body recovers, while there is also real-time feedback on your workout as you train. There are 150 preset sports profiles, 24/7 activity tracking that will collect your active time, steps and distance.
The Ignite 3 offers the company’s signature heart rate tracking technology as well as dual-frequency GPS. Battery life is decent with support for 30 hours of continuous training in GPS mode from a single charge or five days of normal use. There are also Fitbit-like breathing exercises to help you achieve a moment of zen.
The Ignite 3 is the first in the series to feature a circular AMOLED display with ultra-thin bezels, while there are a host of quick-access tools to help you refresh the look with the information that’s most important to you.
In general, it is quite the viewer. It’s not as cheap as some entry-level watches, but there’s plenty of technology here at £289. It’s now available in Night Black, Purple Dusk, Greige Sand, and Brown Copper.
