3 new wrestlers were in contact with WWE before signing

When The Kingdom decided to leave TNA Impact, AEW apparently wasn’t the only wrestling company that reached out to the trio about the prospect of signing on.

The kingdom seems to be going along with a strong impulse now that you’ve signed up with it AEWHowever, it appears that Tony Kahn wasn’t the only wrestling promoter who sought the trio’s services. On October 14, the group of Matt Taffin, Mike Bennett, and agent Maria Kanellis-Bennett debuted with All Elite Wrestling during an episode of Friday night frenzy. They challenged FTR to a match and appear to be in alliance with the Embassy. During this clip, Wardlow and Samoa Joe even shared the possibilities, but it’s unclear what will come from the interactions between these four teams.

What has been clarified is that WWE had contact with Matt, Mike, and Maria before they signed multi-year deals with AEW. This is according to Fightful Select, which stated the following: “Kingdom is All Elite, but there has been at least some connection with WWE. Shortly after the trio left IMPACT, there were reports that Matt Taven had interest from WWE. WWE sources told us that there have already been talks with all three members of The Kingdom, including Maria Kanellis and Mike Bennett, however, there has been no consistent offer to bring them up, and it was more than just a feeling of being out between the two sides.Fightful also initially stated that the group had signed with All Elite Wrestling for several years while noting that Kanellis-Bennett was not expected to wrestle with the company.

Many of the contracted AEW talents have ties to the Kingdom

AEW is full of talent at this point and needs help keeping everyone engaged as it is. Hiring a tag team like The Kingdom was supposed to be a no-brainer for Khan. Especially considering Taven and Bennett’s history with some of the notable names on the list. At one point, both Matt Hardy and Adam Cole were involved in the stable. This was back in the early 2010s, and everyone involved went on to do other noteworthy things in the world of professional wrestling. Relationships are still there, and with Cole badly in need of a character change once he returns, Kingdom’s presence now in AEW presents an exciting opportunity.

Given the group’s frequent participation in ROH’s six-man tag team division, the odds seem reasonable that a new member will be added at some point. This will allow them to challenge the AEW version of the titles, which the Triangle of Death currently holds. There seems to be some issues leaking between Pac and Rey Fenix, which could open the door for a team like The Kingdom to pounce on and secure the gold. There is still a feud with FTR, given that the Kingdom challenged them when they debuted last month. Hope they don’t get lost in AEW Shuffle like this, many wrestlers remained throughout 2022.
