YouTube is working on a streaming service “Channel Store”

Google is said to be following Apple TV and Amazon Prime Video in allowing users to subscribe to other streaming services through YouTube’s “Channel Store.”

according to The Wall Street JournalYouTube plans to launch an online store of video streaming services and has renewed talks with entertainment companies about participating in the platform.

The Channel Store – as it is referred to internally – could launch “early this fall”, with YouTube reportedly working on this “for at least 18 months”. This is a surprisingly long development period since YouTube TV already has this capability for HBO, AMC+, Showtime, and many others.

However, the cord-cutting service is only available in the US and presumably the right YouTube is aiming for a wider launch. In fact, the The Wall Street Journal He says YouTube’s selling point for partners is its vast reach around the world. It comes as YouTube recently renewed its cinematic experience.

The idea is that the new YouTube Channel Store will offer great marketing for streaming services because consumers can watch trailers of shows or movies for free on YouTube and then easily pay to subscribe to the service.

Meanwhile, contract negotiations are underway:

YouTube is discussing splitting subscription revenue with its streaming partners, although the terms may vary widely for each partner, according to people familiar with the situation.

For end users, the advantage of subscribing via YouTube Channel Store is the simplicity and stability of Google’s video streaming infrastructure. YouTube has arguably the best and most consistent video player out there. However, the mobile application will become very crowded.
