Foldable smartphones have come a long way in a very short time, but they still cost a Many. According to a new report, Samsung is working on a foldable version for less than $800 within the next two years.
So far, Samsung has released six foldable smartphones on the market – Galaxy Fold, Z Fold 2, Z Fold 3, Z Flip, Z Flip 5G, and Z Flip 3. Prices have come down a bit over time as well. The original Galaxy Fold was priced at $1,980, with the Galaxy Z Fold 3 now starting at $1,799 before trade-in deals apply. The Galaxy Z Flip launched at $1,379, with the Galaxy Z Flip 3 trimming that price to $999.
The lower price of the Galaxy Z Flip 3 has led to a boom in the popularity of foldable smartphones, with a price tag under $1,000 clearly a much easier pill to swallow for interested customers.
ETNews Reports state that Samsung is in development on an “entry-level foldable smartphone for less than 1 million won.” It has been shifted to setting Samsung’s target price for this foldable device at around $800 USD.
It looks like Samsung is targeting 2024 as a possible launch date for these smartphones – the company is working on “low-end” versions of both the Galaxy Z Flip and Z Fold.
How does Samsung plan to cut the price of foldable devices by $200? Apparently, this includes “excluding premium features” and making sure that “only basic functions are installed”.
if we He must guess, some of the features that might be on the chopping block of the trimmed Galaxy Z Flip might include the external display, wireless charging, and possibly water resistance. The same might also apply to the more affordable Galaxy Z Fold. Of course, the lower chip will also be part of Samsung’s plans.

It appears that the model Samsung is following is the same as its traditional Galaxy A series of smartphones. These devices make up the bulk of Samsung’s smartphone sales, rather than the flagship Galaxy S series.
Another factor contributing to Samsung’s goal of an affordable foldable device, besides growing consumer demand, is Apple. As the iPhone giant is rumored to be working on a foldable device, Samsung wants to retain its position as the market leader in foldable devices, especially in China where the technology is particularly popular.
With its current premium foldable devices, Samsung has also apparently increased its shipping forecast, with plans to produce 15 million units instead of the previously expected 10 million.
Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 in mid-August, likely at similar prices to their predecessors. Both devices are rumored to feature revamped hinge designs with less visible display crease. The Fold 4 is also expected to include a camera upgrade and some more significant design changes to the device.
