Samsung has made huge strides over the past few years with its update cadence across the entire range of devices. With that in mind, here’s every smartphone and tablet Samsung updated with the August 2022 security patch.
Samsung August 2022 Security Update – What’s New
Almost all security updates include a number of important security fixes, most of them include general Android tweaks, but there are some that are specific to Samsung devices. The Korean company released the full details in its regular security update bulletin with a number of critical and high-profile issues resolved.
The August 2022 security update for Samsung Galaxy devices includes a number of workarounds including fixes for MAC address leaks when connected to Bluetooth or NFC devices, a fix for a Knox VPN vulnerability, a fix for an issue where apps can process mobile data when connected to Wi-Fi, and to much more. All in all, around 31 vulnerabilities have been patched this time around with Google providing a number of fixes as well.
Patch notes from the actual OTA file Some owners see notes that several Galaxy apps for select phones have also been updated with Samsung Health, Samsung Members and Smart Switch all received modifications.
Devices with the August 2022 Samsung Security Update
As noted, Samsung has really upped its game in terms of updates in recent years. In fact, Samsung pushed the August 2022 security update to devices as early as July 28. This will undoubtedly expand to a wide range of phones over the coming days and weeks as more OTA updates arrive on a large number of Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets worldwide.
This list will include a note on where the update first appeared and if it’s also available in the US. As usual, the latest additions will be highlighted in bold.
Galaxy S series
As the flag-bearer of Samsung’s smartphone efforts, it should come as no surprise that the Galaxy S series is at the forefront of the update schedule every month. The latest Galaxy S series devices are often among the first devices on Android to get the latest security patch.
This was proven true with the August 2022 security update, with the Samsung Galaxy S22 series seeing the patch in select regions as of July 28. This patch weighed around 420MB and includes some tweaks to the PenUP app along with some core Samsung apps including the Galaxy wearable app. What’s even more impressive is that the Galaxy S21 and S20 series were updated just hours later in European markets as well.
Due to differences in processor usage between global and North American regions, Galaxy devices powered by Snapdragon often receive updates afterwards. Those of you in the US with carrier-locked units can now get the August patch for the Galaxy S21 on Sprint and T-Mobile.
While unlocked Galaxy S22 models also get the patch dedicated to Snapdragon models. Verizon pushed out a bunch of updates for the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S22 series phones all with the August patch. This includes the Galaxy S21 FE, which is often missed when discussing updates to the S21 series.
Although it is part of the S20 series, the Galaxy S20 FE was released later in 2020. This means that it is often updated a little later than the regular “premium” Galaxy S20 series. However, updates keep pouring in and the S20 FE is now seeing the latest patch in Europe.
Galaxy S10 series phones have started the update in a number of European regions including Germany, Greece, Luxembourg, Poland, Switzerland and Nordic countries with the update coming in the last year of support from Samsung.

Galaxy Note series
The latest release of the Galaxy S22 Ultra puts the final nail in the coffin of the Galaxy Note series. Although there have been no new devices since 2020, Samsung continues to push updates to any existing and supported Note phones.
Samsung Galaxy Note 20 unlocked versions are starting to see August security according to SamMobile. This includes the unlocked Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra as well as those on carrier networks including AT&T, Comcast, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon, and Xfinity Mobile.
Android 12 and One UI 4.0 represent the final update for the Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+ and as part of Samsung’s four-year support commitment, the duo will continue to get regular monthly patches until late 2023. The August 2022 security update is now rolling out to The penultimate Note series phones are in Europe and began rolling out for carrier-locked Note 10 series units in the US starting August 17th. However, this release is currently limited to Verizon-locked and Xfinity-locked Note 10, Note 10+, and Note 10 5G.

Galaxy Fold series
The Galaxy Fold or Z Fold series is arguably the flagship lamp in the Samsung Galaxy lineup, and it has grown exponentially over the past few years. While the Fold 4 usurped the 2021 foldable, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 was the first in the lineup to get the August 2022 security update. The US rollout has now begun with Verizon locked units being the first in the region to grab the patch.
While Samsung was busy releasing the Z Fold 4, the original version or the initial re-released version was getting the latest security patch. Its mobile rollout has already been spotted in France, with a broader expansion expected in the coming days.
The second generation Galaxy Z Fold 2 started getting the latest August release in the US with a number of carrier-locked foldable devices receiving the patch at the same time. It’s already rolling out to all the major carriers in the area including AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, and more.

Galaxy Flip series
The Galaxy Flip series is arguably third in Samsung’s smartphone rankings behind the Fold and S lines. We expect to learn more about 4G in the coming weeks, but until then, those with the original Samsung Galaxy Flip 5G get an update with the August security patch. 2022. Devices in Switzerland are among the first to receive an OTA update, with more expected over the coming days.
Like the Fold 3, at least until the Z Flip 4 is revealed, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 is the current flagship in its own field. This means that it is among the first wave of devices to be updated, with the August version starting to roll out to those in Europe with the foldable smartphone. The US rollout is less clear but carrier-locked Verizon devices can now get the latest OTA.
The first generation of Z Flip sans 5G connectivity is also being updated in a number of Asia and Middle East regions including Egypt, India, Pakistan and more. The rollout has also started in Europe where Italian Flip owners were able to pull the August patch as well.

Galaxy A series
Among the Samsung ranges, the A series is the entry level for most people. Many Galaxy A series devices include a number of features often associated with the flagship, which contrasts with the price tags. The Galaxy A73 is the “flagship” within the range, and as such, it has started getting the latest August release in select Asian regions including Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines.
The Galaxy A33 was released along with the A73 series but it is available in more markets as one of the best entry level models from Samsung. With a 5-year update promise, it’s a great long-term budget option. Owners in Vietnam, Hong Kong and South Korea are starting to see the August patch on the Galaxy A33. We expect this offering to expand very soon to more regions including Europe and North America.
At the moment, the Galaxy A23 is the most entry-level Galaxy device to receive the August 2022 patch. This is a true budget phone in almost every respect, but the latest OTA update is starting to roll out in Russia, with further expansion expected over the coming days. More Galaxy A-series devices have been updated in Russia, and this time it’s the Galaxy A52 and A53’s turn. Both Samsung devices are now starting to see the August patch in Russia regions.
Galaxy A42 5G has been updated in vast swathes of Europe including Bulgaria, France, Luxembourg, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland, the Baltic region and Northern Europe. That’s not all as the August 2022 security update for Galaxy A42 units is rolling out in Australia and some Asian countries including the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand.

How to check for the latest OTA on your Galaxy device
If your device is already scheduled to be updated, but the patch did not reach you in person, you can try to update manually. Simply open the Settings app, tap Software Update, and choose Download and Install.
