Autumn tech season is upon us and IFA 2022 kicks off in Berlin, Germany on September 2 as the first major tech conference of the season with major brands like Samsung, Asus, LG, Qualcomm, Honor, TCL and more there to impress them with their latest products.
We’re expecting a deluge of new laptops, tablets, headphones, smartphones and more from hundreds of exhibitors over the course of the five-day event and we’ll be sure to bring you news of the best products as they are announced.
We’ll update this page throughout the conference, but until the news starts to surface, here’s a look at what we can expect to see at IFA 2022 and how you can watch it.
How to watch IFA 2022
Depending on where you are, you may want to count on us to bring you the highlights every day as with the conference being organized in Germany, key presentations will not always happen at the ideal times for American viewers. The conference runs through September 6, but the majority of presentations happen early and in many cases just before the start date.
There is still a file IFA Virtual Platform Available to help you check out all the exhibitors, but with the conference largely reverting to an in-person event, the keywords will be available via the YouTube channel of the respective companies.
Qualcomm
The official event will be led by Cristiano Amon, President of Qualcomm. While the company won’t have its own laptops or phones to show off, there’s a lot to talk about the leading chip maker. While the next generation of mobile chips won’t show up here, Qualcomm is keeping that at its annual event in November, we can hear more about the next generation processor for Windows on ARM. Moreover, there will surely be discussions around 5G and AI, which have gone from buzzwords to cornerstones of the tech world. It may not be a tangible product like some others, but we’ll give you the most impactful news from Qualcomm’s show.
Asus
One of the products we can be sure Asus will showcase at IFA 2022 is the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED as the company will prominently display it on a countdown timer to its event at 8am ET on August 31. Actually two days before IFA is scheduled to start, but Asus says this is an IFA announcement so we’ll allow it. This should be a real launch event for the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED, which Asus showed off all the way at CES in January, so it’s safe to assume there will be more laptops and maybe some new screens or other accessories coming like we will.
Samsung
What can Samsung announce? We just had Samsung August Unpacked announcing Galaxy Z Flip 4And the Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy Buds 2 Pro, and Galaxy Watch 5. Oh and don’t forget the bulky stuff odyssey arc screen. Well, we’re not expecting any new phones, but rest assured that they will reveal something. Given Samsung’s range, it’s hard to know if it’s going to be a new washing machine, a new TV, or a new washing machine with a built-in TV for that matter. There have been rumors of updates to its SmartThings IoT suite, so if you’re a fan of smart home products, this might be Samsung’s keyword for you.
LG
Monitors and TVs are LG’s most likely offerings at IFA 2022, now that the company has unfortunately (but perhaps wisely) left the smartphone business for good. LG’s press release ahead of IFA 2022 can be included in the encyclopedia under the heading “Mysterious” as the company noted that it will “display LG’s vision for reimagined technology, rediscovered lifestyles, and redefined experiences.” While that doesn’t give us much, it does indicate that there will be a ‘batch of products’, so we have to look forward to that.
TCL
TCL has produced some budget smartphones in the past few years, but it doesn’t look like any phones are in the pipeline for IFA 2022. Based on the preview image the company showed at its September 1 press conference, we’ll get you some TVs, speakers, hardware, and eyeglasses. The new smart. The latter is probably intriguing, but for American readers TCL doesn’t always release everything here, so we may have to content ourselves with Ray ban stories.
honor
IFA press conference already held during IFA? Honor is bucking the trend of early announcements and is hosting its conference on September 2 at 11am ET. Honor doesn’t have a huge presence in the US, but the company makes some powerful mid-range phones, and we were very impressed with honor 70 In our last practical review. The image accompanying the event announcement shows a tablet, laptop, phone, and wireless earbuds. This is going to be quite a bunch of announcements, but we’ll have to wait and see if they’re ready to unveil it all now and how much it will make it to the US
